GENERAL INFORMATION

This section of the book gives details of headlamp light unit and bulb changing, circuit diagram, seat adjustment and jacking points, etc.


Headlamps, all models
To replace light unit or bulb.
1. Remove radiator grille, three Phillips head screws.
2. Slacken the three Phillips head screws securing headlamp rim.
3. Turn light unit rim anti-clockwise and withdraw.
4. Remove light adaptor.
5. Fit new light unit or bulb to adaptor and reverse removal procedure, ensuring that light unit is correctly located in lamp body and that rubber pads on bottom of grille are in the slots provided.

Wing lamps, all models
To replace side lamp or flasher lamp bulb.
Side lamps
1. Remove three screws retaining white lens.
2. Replace bulb and refit lens; do not overtighten screws.
Flasher lamps
1. Remove white lens as above.
2. Remove one screw retaining amber lens.
3. Replace bulb and refit amber and white lenses; do not over-tighten screws.

Rear lamps, all models
To replace flasher, tail, reverse or number plate illumination bulbs.

Flasher lamps
1. Remove three screws retaining amber lens.
2. Replace bulb and refit lens; do not overtighten screws.

Tail-stop lamps
1. Remove amber lens as on previous page.
2. Remove two screws retaining red lens.
3. Replace bulb and refit red and amber lenses; do not overtlghten screws.

Reverse light
1. Remove amber and red lens as above.
2. Remove two screws retaining white lens.
3. Replace bulb and refit all lens; do not overtighten screws.

Number plate illumination lamp
1. Remove two screws retaining cover.
2. Replace bulb and refit cover.

Boot light, all models
To replace boot light bulb.
1. Remove two screws retaining glass cover.
2. Replace bulb and refit cover.

Gear selector illumination, automatic models
To replace gear selector illumination bulb.
1. Lift the front edge of the indicator plate.
2. Slide indicator plate upwards to gain access to the bulb.
3. Replace the bulb and push indicator plate back into position.

Interior lights, all models
To replace interior light bulbs.
Map reading light, at each side below front parcel shelf roll.
1. Push bulb contacts to one side and allow bulb to drop down.
2. Replace by pushing bulb into position.

Light at interior mirror.
1. Pull bulb holder and lens downwards.
2. Replace bulb and refit by pushing bulb holder and lens into position.

Rear light, above rear window.
1. Remove two screws retaining cover.
2. Replace bulb and refit cover.

Circular light at centre of roof.
1. Turn lens anti-clockwise and withdraw.
2. Replace bulb and refit lens.

Warning lights, all models
To replace any of the seven warning light bulbs.
1. Push up the two spring-loaded clips above warning light indicator cover.
2. Remove plastic warning light indicator cover.
3. Replace bulb as required, clip cover back into position.

A Panel lights, all models
To replace panel light bulbs.
1. Remove warning light cover as on previous page.
2. Remove two panel retaining screws.
3. Disconnect speedometer drive cable. This can be done from inside R.H. glove box.
4. Withdraw panel, then remove bulb holder and replace bulb as required.
5. Reverse removal procedure.

Clock illumination, SC and Automatic models
To replace clock illumination bulb.
1. Remove clock holder fixings.
2. Withdraw clock complete with moulding, then remove bulb holder and replace bulb.
Reverse removal procedure.

Clock and tachometer illumination, TC models
To replace clock or tachometer illumination bulb:
1, Remove the housing fixing bolt.
2. Pull the housing complete, forward, then remove appropriate bulb holder and replace the bulb.
3. Reverse removal procedure.

Clock adjustment, all models
1. Remove clock, as on previous page.
2. Slacken grub screw on underside of holder and withdraw clock.
3. Adjust as required by means of screw at rear of clock.
Clock gaining turn to - mark
Clock losing turn to + mark

This regulation should be attempted only if the clock gains or loses more than two or three minutes per week.

Fuses, early models with positive earth electrical system
Three fuses are located on the right-hand wing under the bonnet, two in fuse box, one in clip below it.

To replace fuse in box.
1. Unclip cover.
2. Replace fuse as required. Fuse (35 amp) in holder marked 1 and 2; is for the horns, cigar lighter and interior lights. Fuse (35 amp); in holder marked 3 and 4 is for windscreen washer, stop lights and flasher lights.
To replace in-line holder fuse (2 amp).
1. Push in and turn two halves of holder.
2. Withdraw fuse and replace. This fuse is for the panel lights.
Spare 35-amp fuses will be found in the fuse box. Use 2-amp fuses for the in-line holder.

Fuses, late models with negative earth electrical system
A fuse box with four fuses is located on the right-hand wing under the bonnet.

To replace a fuse.
1. Pull off cover for fuse box.
2. Replace fuse as required.
Fuse (35 amp) in holder marked I and 2 is for the horns, cigar lighter and interior lights.
Fuse (35 amp) in holder marked 3 and 4 is for windscreen washer, stop lights and flasher lights.
Fuse (2 amp) in holder marked S and 6 is for cigar, clock and panel illumination.
Fuse (15 amp) in holder marked 7 and 8 is for heater and wiper motor.
Spare 35-amp fuses will be found in the fuse box cover.
Continental lighting, all models
Changes of lighting for Continental touring may be required. Advice on the best procedure can be obtained from The Rover Company Limited, Technical Service Department.
